Easily Find Hex Codes with ColorPix

Colorpix is a very cool little tool. It’s not necessarily an organizational tool, but it does an often needed task quickly and easily and tucks away neatly in your task bar when not in use.

The Color Schemer ColorPix identifies the color code for anything on your screen. Trying to blend the adsense code nicely into your site colors but don’t know (or can’t remember) the hex codes for the colors on your site? Just quickly bring up this cool little tool and move your mouse around the screen to identify all of the color codes. When you’ve found the color and code you need, hit any key to hold the current color then click (or ctrl-C) the Hex number to copy it to your clipboard.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, this great little tool is FREE. :-) Take just a couple minutes to visit the following link, download it and stick it in your tray. You’ll be glad you did.

PS.. I’d like to give direct credit to the person who reminded me of this tool, but the post is in a private forum at Keyword Avalanche.

Organize Your Windows Start Menu

Thanks to a contributor at LifeHacker.com providing the following suggestion for organizing your Windows Start Menu. The above link takes you to a lot of great suggestions in response to a contest on ways to improve your Windows interface.

This is a good way to clean up the start menu, on my home computer I
have so many different programs installed it’s hard to keep track of
them, so what I do is right-click the start button and go to explore.
Open the programs menu and you can add all the folders you want to keep
your menu from getting cluttered.

For me, the easiest way to move things around into the new folders is to keep the explorer window open with Programs selected on the left menu so that all new folders show up on the right. Then simply click your Start button at the bottom left of your screen and bring up all the programs. Push and hold the left button over the program or folder you want to move and drag & drop it into the correct folder in the Explorer window. Should you make a mistake, just use the Edit/Undo that is in the Explorer window.

The folders I am currently using are:
1Browsers
1Communication (conferencing, im, etc)
1SEO
1SiteDesign
1Media Players
1Office Tools

Of course, I left my StartUp folder as it was (don’t forget to remove any programs that you do not need immediately at startup because it just slows down your boot-up time). I put the number 1 in front of the folder names so that they would be grouped all together at the top of my program list.
